In this episode we start with some News and Reviews. Then we focus on a lookback over the last twelve months and look at some of our favourite comic reads from 2008. These are not comics that have necessarily come out this year, but comics we have read in the last 12 months. We both come up with a top 5 and some honourable mentions. |

In our 31st episode, Steve returns to the 21st century and we begin with some news and talk about some stories in the world of comics, TV and film that have caught our eye. After that we move onto our "What if....?" segment and this episode we talk about Death in Comics and how it has become a revolving door. We look at some of the reasons why this happens but then look at the implausible idea of "what if death in comics was permanent?" Where would mainstream comics go? How would they develop? Rounding off this episode is our Hidden Gem where we talk about The Shield, a unique cop TV drama that has just completed its seven year run. |

For our 30th episode Steve goes old school and communicates with us via the telephone - thanks to his computer going into meltdown two days earlier. However, that doesn't stop him from from making a heroic effort and dropping some serious facts throughout the show, despite not having internet access. On the show... News: We mostly talk about the Leeds comic convention and some fantasy shows and movies in the pipeline Main Feature: We discuss H. P. Lovecraft, creator of the Cthulhu mythos and an author whose impact is felt even today Challenge Scott: Here Steve pitches 3 comics to me to see what I think. Will I end up getting any of them? The comics mentioned are 'The Roberts', the 'Northlanders' trade and 'Rex Mundi' Apologies for some of the audio not being too clear. Hopefully back to normal for next episode. |

In this episode after a some news we press on with out new 'What if....?' segment. This week we'll be attempting to answer the question 'What if Kevin Smith's Superman Lives script got made'. We'll talk about what's in the script, and what we think the state of the franchise would have been now if it had made it to the silver screen. Next we discuss our hidden gem which for this week is 'Miller's Crossing'. Rated by Time magazine as one of the 100 best films of all time. Steve is a recent convert to it's greatness and Scott only saw it for the first time the night before recording - so what will the make of it? Listen in at the end to hear Kevin Smith talk about some of the history behind his Superman script. |

This episode is our last international one as Scott is soon set to return to England. In the second of our new format episodes we have two segments to this show, What If...where we have a lengthy discussion about the repercussions of a TV show not being cancelled. This is in terms of the show itself and the wider scope of TV in general and this episode we talk about Firefly. Our second segment is the familiar Hidden Gem where we talk about the classic 1981 film Excalibur. As ever if you want to get in touch about anything we've talked about in this episode you can email us individually at steve@comicbookoutsiders.com or scott@comicbookoutsiders.com. You could also let us know what you think with a review at our myspace, facebook, and libsyn pages, or leave us an iTunes review. |
