Wed, 26 August 2009 In this bumper episode Steve and Scott start with some news, mostly about James Cameron's and Felicia Day's respective Avatars.
Then they embark on a discussion about censorship. How has it been done in comics in the past? Is it always a bad thing, or are there times when some level of censorship is appropriate? Let us know your thoughts.
Finally they discuss a Hidden Gem. The miniseries V from 1983, created by Kenneth Johnson, it's an epic story following the human resistance in the aftermath of an alien invasion.
Some of the audio quality isn't great in this episode, but by episode 57 Scott will be back in England so things should be cleared up.

Wed, 15 April 2009 In this episode we start with some news and reviews and then begin the first part of our discussion about comic book companies. With over thirty comic companies it is sometimes very difficult to know where to start for new readers. There are no obvious labels about what genres of comics different publishers produce, so in an attempt to make it a bit easier for new readers, or those interested in a particular genre, we start with a guide to some of them. This episode we talk about Top Shelf Productions, Icon, Dark Horse, Vertigo and Red 5 comics. And of course during the episode I completely forgot to mention Rex Mundi or Star Wars comics when talking about Dark Horse comics. We then get into a lengthy discussion about remakes. Are they a good thing or not? With the end of TV shows such as BattleStar Galactica, and news on the horizon of other remakes and reimagings, we look at what has come before and what is planned for the future. As always we appreciate your feedback and comments on this show and the topics we discuss. In our Main Feature the gloves come off and we tackle the thorny Trades vs Single Issues debate.
In Challenge Scott we don't talk about any new comics but Scott and Steve discuss in depth Hawaiian Dick, written by B. Clay Moore and brilliantly drawn by Steven Griffin.
If you want to get in touch about anything we've talked about in this episode you can email us individually at our new addresses steve@comicbookoutsiders.com or scott@comicbookoutsiders.com. Thu, 25 September 2008 This short bonus episode includes some of our mistakes that get removed in the editing process, as well as some mistakes from Babylon 5, plus I conduct an interview with an alien and it doesn't go well and we round it off with a song, thankfully not sung by either Scott or myself.Direct download: Comic_Book_Outsiders_Episode25b_-_Blooper_episode.mp3 Category: podcasts -- posted at: 12:55 PM Comments[0] | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Bringing you some of the very best hidden gems from the world of independent comics, movies and TV.In this landmark episode Scott is still away on his international travels so I have another guest co-host who will be familiar to long-time listeners as we interviewed him in a previous episode. In this episode our Main Feature is an interview with Si Spurrier, the creator of Gutsville from Image Comics. He has also written for 2000AD, and more recently Marvel comics on titles such as Silver Surfer, Wolverine and Ghost Rider. Instead of a Challenge segment we have a general news and reviews section where we discuss stories that have caught our interest and we still end up with 3 comic pitches in this segment. It's my co-host's turn to step into the confessional for the Guilty Pleasure section, and it is one from a long list of many that he wants to get off his chest. Our final section as always is the Hidden Gem segment and this episode we're talking about the film Stardust. This episode brings a few new changes with a new website, new email addresses and logo, a real CBO facelift to mark out 25th episode. Thanks to everyone who has contributed to get the show this far, and thanks this episode go out to everyone who sent in their best wishes. If you want to get in touch about anything we've talked about in this episode you can email us individually at our new addresses steve@comicbookoutsiders.com or scott@comicbookoutsiders.com. As usual you can leave us a review at our myspace, facebook, and libsyn pages, or leave us an iTunes review. Sun, 17 August 2008 Bringing you some of the very best hidden gems from the
world of independent comics, movies and TV.In this episode our Main Feature is an interview Scott conducted with Brad Lovett, our roving reporter who gives us his feedback on the San Diego Comic Con and what his experience was like as an attendee but also an independent comic creator. Then it's the first Challenge Barry, where I pitch three comics to Barry and try to get him interested enough in them to pick up at least one. Barry reveals a Guilty Pleasure and we get into a bit of a discussion about other guilty pleasures from the same era. Our last segment as always is the Hidden Gem and this episode Barry and Steve talk about Supernatural, a great TV show that more people should be watching. There is also a quick recap of the Secret Quotation competition. You need to send all five quotes, plus the name of the film that they come from to secretquotation@gmail.com. Welcome to part two of our special Babylon 5 Season 2 retrospective. Here we pick up right where we left off and we discuss some of the highlights going right up to the end of season two finale. Our special guest again on this Babylon 5 episode is another Steve, someone who knows as much, if not more, about the show than me or Scott. If you've not seen the show there will be some spoilers but we try not to give away too much and usually give some warning. As always feel free to get in touch with us, through the website, MySpace, Facebook or the forums. We love to hear from you. Also leave us a review on iTunes! Enjoy the episode. Sun, 6 July 2008 Bringing you some of the very best hidden gems from the
world of independent comics, movies and TV.Welcome to a special episode. After our last Babylon 5 Episode proved to be so popular, and because we had so much fun doing it, we decided to come back to it again. This time we focus on Series 2 and this is where the real five year story starts to develop. Our discussion went on for so long as there was so much to talk about and so many fantastic episodes we've cut this episode into two and will release the second half in a few days time. Our special guest again on this Babylon 5 episode is another Steve, someone who knows as much, if not more, about the show than me or Scott. If you've not seen the show there will be some spoilers but we try not to give away too much and usually give some warning. Thu, 5 June 2008 Bringing you some of the hidden gems in independent comics, movies and TV.In this episode: Our Main Feature is a discussion about vigilantes in comics and TV. Are they a bad thing or a good thing? We wrangle with this difficult issue and go over related issue in recent comics history. In Challenge Scott I pitch 3 new books and break new ground for this segment as one of them is a Manga comic. It's Scott's turn to reveal a Guilty Pleasure, one from his youth that I'm not too familiar with as it turns out. Rounding off this episode, our Hidden Gem is perhaps second guilty pleasure for Scott, it's one of his favourite movies of all time, the independent movie - Primer. Sat, 17 May 2008 Bringing you some of the hidden gems in independent comics, movies and TV.In this episode: Our Main Feature is our Bristol Convention discussion, looking back over everything that happened at the Bristol Expo comic convention last weekend in the UK. In Challenge Scott we don't have any new comics, but Scott has built up quite a back log, so we discuss, Kick-Ass, The Darkness, Criminal and RASL. It's my turn for a Guilty Pleasure, and this time I have something that I don't think should be guilty at all, but someone who was actually involved in the film disagreed. This episode's Hidden Gem is where we talk about the fantastic film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang starring flavour of the moment Robery Downey Junior and Val Kilmer. Wed, 7 May 2008 ![]() Welcome to a special episode, due mainly to our love of Babylon 5 and time constraints just before the Bristol Expo this weekend. This episode we throw away all the usual format, and it is an extended Hidden Gem where we talk about the characters, the species, the plot for series 1 and how it all adds up to one fantastic first series of one of the best sci-fi shows of all time. Our special guest is another Steve, someone whose knowledge of Babylon 5 is comparable to that of Scott and myself. Apologies for the sound problems this episode, we should have them fixed for next episode after the Bristol Comic convention. Sat, 26 April 2008 Bringing you some of the hidden gems in independent comics, movies and TV.In this episode: Our Main Feature is an interview with Pete Rogers, co-founder of Orang Utan Comics. We talk about how he got started in comics, 11th Hour - the new comics anthology and their connection with Markosia. For more information visit their website In Challenge Scott we start by talking about Hellboy, a previous book from last episode's Challenge Scott. He lets us know what he really thinks of it and we talk about some other classic comics that everyone should read at least once. Slightly differently in this episode, we look ahead to upcoming comics, in Top Cow's Pilot Season 2. This is where they put out first issue of six or seven new series, and readers vote on MySpace for the ones they want to see turn into an ongoing series, and the top two or three with the most votes make it. For more information, check out Top Cow Comic website Or read about it on CBR or Newsarama It's Scott turn to reveal a Guilty Pleasure, and this time he thinks it is one that shouldn't be guilt free and it's something we should all be watching. We wrap up the show with a Hidden Gem and this episode its the TV series Twin Peaks by David Lynch. There is a small prize for anyone who can identify the music used in all the intervals. Answers to comicbookoutsiders@hotmail.com. If we get several entries the winner will be drawn from a hat.
